A Message From The Principal
Mrs Claire Allen
Welcome back to another wonderful term at Narrabri Public School. Our students and staff have come back refreshed and ready to get straight into learning. We are ready for a busy term filled with enriching opportunities for our students and already classes are putting the finishing touches on their Narrabri Show art, polishing off their Narrabri Eisteddfod performances, getting ready for representative sporting events, the Science and Engineering Challenge, Grip Leadership, and so much more!
There is always something to meet the needs of every individual and it is wonderful to see all students be encouraged to reach their full potential. This term staff will prepare the semester one reports that will showcase student progress against syllabus milestones. This is a process we would like to review with our families, to make these documents more meaningful and relevant to our students' needs. In coming weeks there will be survey links shared via the newsletter seeking guidance and feedback from our families. We encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas to ensure the improvements made truly reflect what our families hope to see.

ANZAC March
It was delightful to see so many proud NPS students join our dedicated staff on ANZAC Day to march to the RSL and listen quietly and respectfully to the presenters.
This is a special day in our national calendar, and it is always heartwarming to have our students celebrated as they make their way through the cheering crowds along 'ANZAC Parade'.
This year was extra special as we were joined for the first time by our School Dog, Daisy.
Thankyou to all families and staff who supported this event.
Cross Country
It was the perfect day for an adventurous Cross Country, with just enough of a breeze to make the run pleasant. Our students had all their Core Values in place as they made their way through town and down to the river track. Our 8, 9 and 10 year olds were the first out of the gate, running 2 laps of the track to achieve a total of 2 kilometres.
This was an enormous effort and it is obvious that the Infants Kilometre Club daily practice has paid off! Our 11, 12 and 13 year olds were next, running a mighty 3 kilometres and it was impressive to see so many manage to run the distance with minimal rests.
Six students in each age and gender group will progress onto the Zone Cross Country at the West Lake on Friday 12th May. These students would have taken home a note from the race today. All ribbons will be presented to students and the successful 6 in each race will be announced at next Monday's assembly. We welcome families to attend the assembly at 9:15-9:45 on Monday 1st May.
Thank you to Miss Bollen and Miss Henderson for organising such a well-run event. We hope to see all our enthusiastic runners/walkers and their families tomorrow morning at the Park Run at the West Lake. NPS is hosting this week's park run and there will be a delicious BBQ breakfast supplied by our P&C at the finish line.
Week 2 Infants Assembly
We are excited to welcome back our families to our afternoon assemblies. Classes host these assemblies and present items related to the work they are undertaking in class.
Our week 2 assembly is hosted by 1M on Wednesday, beginning at 2.40 pm in the school hall. If you are able to attend please sign in through the front office.
We look forward to seeing you there

You've Got Mail
As part of our school's development of sustainable practices and efforts to keep our family and community connected, we request that you check your emails regularly as Narrabri Public School moves towards online communication.
If you are unable to access the information digitally, please contact the office on 02 6792 2246 to make alternate arrangements.
Meet & Greet
Next Tuesday, 2nd May, NPS is excited to host our annual Kindergarten Transition Meet and Greet. This is the commencement of our Ready for Kinder transition program that will run each Tuesday for the remainder of the year. We welcome all prospective families to attend our school from 2pm-3pm next Tuesday to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and some fun and interactive games for the incoming students.
This is a wonderful opportunity for new and existing parents to meet staff, have a look at our incredible school grounds and facilities, and get to know other parents. If you know of families with children starting Kindergarten in 2024, please encourage them to come along; the more the merrier!
Nitbusters
Everyone at some point has faced a dreaded case of headlice (nits). It can be very frustrating as a child and parent to try and keep on top of these, however there are some simple steps to keeping the nits away. People catch head lice from direct head-to-head contact with another person who has head lice.
This can happen when people play, cuddle or work closely together. Head lice are most common among children and their families. We encourage all students to have their own school hat which is clearly labelled and don't promote students sharing hats.
The office spare hats are treated to prevent the transfer of lice. This week an email correspondence with parent information will be shared with families on our upcoming Nitbuster program in Week 4. This includes a parent consent form. Hard copies of this form will also come home for completion. We encourage all students to return the form and participate in the program.

Transition Commences
Our kindergarten transition program commenced this week with the first of our pre-school visits. This important step assists future kindergarten students to experience big school with adults they know, fostering confidence that helps them to enjoy the experience.
We have 3 more Tuesday pre-school visits before the end of the term, and this week’s visitors were delighted to receive a medal to celebrate their time at NPS. There were many laughs and smiles as they explored our playground, ate delicious fruit, and participated in activities with our current kindergarten students.
Next term commences with a Meet and Greet afternoon tea on Tuesday 2nd May from 2-3pm; with the ready for kindergarten sessions from 2-3pm weekly from Tuesday, 9th May.
If you have a child, or have friends or family that have children commencing kindergarten in 2024, we would encourage them to contact the office on 6792 2246 to organise a Principal’s tour of the school and to attend the upcoming sessions. Even if you haven’t made a final decision about the best fit for your child, we would love to share the exciting and enriching opoprtunities that Narrabri Public School has to offer.

On Wednesday the following students travelled to Tamworth to compete in the selection trials for the North West 11/U’s and Open Rugby League Teams as part of the Narrabri Zone team.
U/11’s: Seb Alexander, Rylie Arthur, Clinton Lamb, Tyson Crean, Laycee Lawler and Blaze Fenton.
Opens: Hunter Barrett, Cooper Mason and Lincoln Bourke.
Our Narrabri Zone teams played several trial games throughout the day, against other zones and in these games our students played great football and their teamwork and sportsmanship was outstanding. From these trial games Hunter Barrett was selected to play in the possibles and probable’s match to select a North West Open team to compete at the State Championships later in the term.
Hunter played in the centres for this game and played well throughout the match, but unfortunately was unsuccessful in being selected into the North West team.
Heathly Hints
There is nothing more important for helping our children get through the day then a healthy lunchbox. Sometimes it is hard to know what foods are actually healthy for our children. Did you know that high-processed and packaged foods often have lots of hidden sugars that make it hard for our students to concentrate? Often the cheapest and simplest options can be the best. Here is a link to a wonderful website that can give new and helpful ideas to keep our students full of good food and ready to learn after play breaks.
ICAS returns in 2023
We’re delighted to inform you that we will be participating in ICAS again this year, to recognise and reward students’ academic achievement. The assessments are now fully online and sitting dates will commence in Term 3. Learn more by visiting icasassessments.com.
