Week 7 Term 1

A Message From The Principal

Mrs Claire Allen

What a wonderful week we’ve had. Week 7 has been filled with students enjoying sporting opportunities with swimming and netball, in addition to the start of our tennis program. We have marvelled at our students adherence to the Core Values and the level of sportsmanship displayed at each representative event. The Berry Street Education Model practice is embeded in our morning routines and I have enjoyed going to various classes throughout the week to observe their activities. The funniest of all was in 4B where they played tricky games to train their mind and body. Following these routines helps settle our students into a ‘ready to learn’ focused state; encouraging them to achieve their personal best each day. We look forward to sharing our circle time routines next week via our social media platforms.

Attendance Awards

Our attendance improvement project has commences for 2023 and there are a number of initiatives we have put into place to support improved attendance for all students. One such initiative is a weekly class award that celebrates classes attending greater than 90% of the time. Each week, these classes will be announced on assembly, and representatives from each class will be presented with an award for display. Accepted recorded reasons for absences are not counted against a class total, so make sure to notify the school via phone, email, the app or a note if your child is away.

northwest swimming carnival

On Monday 14 of our students and Miss Glass attended the North West Swimming Championships in Armidale. Our swimmers were vying for a top 3 finish in their events, to gain a spot on the North West team to compete in the state championships at Sydney Olympic Park. Although none of our swimmers progressed to the next level, they all swam well with lots of personal best times. The students are to be commended on their sportsmanship and the way they cheered on their teammates throughout the day was amazing, well done to everyone.

5D Primary Assembly

This week's JAM PACKED primary assembly was hosted by 5D. Between the awards presentations, we shared what we have been learning this term.

In art we have used oil pastels to create bright and colourful pieces. We have focused on blending and using contrasting colours in the colour wheel. We have also dipped our toes into some music, exploring elements of percussion, tapping away during our new favorite brain break.

In science we have begun exploring adaptations and have created a short video on an experiment which we carried out. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed doing it!

Week 8 Infants Assembly

We are excited to welcome back our families to our afternoon assemblies. Classes host these assemblies and present items related to the work they are undertaking in class.

Our week 8 assembly is hosted by 2C on Wednesday, beginning at 2.40 pm in the school hall. If you are able to attend please sign in through the front office.

We look forward to seeing you there

Reduce, re-use , recycle... Create!!

In week 5, the SRC undertook their first event for 2023- Clean Up Australia Day.

Each class committed to the challenge of creating a piece of recycled art. The SRC has voted on the winner ,which will be announced at Monday's school assembly.

Thankyou to everyone for embracing this day and a huge thankyou to our SRC for their dedication to their new roles.

Netball Gala Day

Narrabri Public School had a fantastic day at the Bev Burrow's Netball Courts with our competitive school team coming third out of five teams. Although we were very hot it was definitely a day to remember! It was great to see everyone participating and relishing the opportunity of trying a new sport. Primary students had a blast and we can't wait to do it again next year. We would like to thank Miss Glass for organising this event and thanks also to all the helpful umpires from Narrabri High School for volunteering today.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Its that time of year again – Premier’s Reading Challenge! Research suggests that reading can improve not only academic success but also improve a child’s well-being, therefore all students K-6 are invited and encouraged to participate in the 2023 Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) which will begin Monday, 27th February 2023 and finish Friday, 18th August 2023. Registration and student reading records can be updated online at home or students are welcome to bring them to Miss Gauci and Mrs Scott in the library and they will submit them.
