A Message From The Principal
Mrs Claire Allen
Week 4 has flown by and it has been exciting to see our students preparing for upcoming eisteddfod items, participating in anti-bullying programs and workshops, and improving their use of skimming and scanning skills as part of our strategic school support in reading program.
Our students have taken on board their anti-bullying strategies and it has been wonderful to hear students looking for opportunities to support each other, identify problems as soon as they arise, and recognising when their actions or the actions of others may or may not be bullying.
Our school is currently reviewing our Anti-Bullying Policy to formalise our preventative measures and strategic approach to educating our students and make our school a safe and nurturing place where everyone feels cared for and can achieve their personal best.

Do It For Dolly
Today our school was a sea of blue as our SRC raised funds for 'Do it For Dolly Day'. As a special tribute our staff and students created a beautiful blue butterfly on the back flat and a drone was flown to take a snap!
Our school community also raised funds by way of a gold coin donation to Dolly’s Dream. This foundation helps empower and educate our kids, families, schools and communities about the devastating effects of bullying and cyber bullying, and how it can be prevented.
Thank you to Miss Dudman and the SRC for organising this event.
Nitbusters
Nitbusters was a huge hit! The Balonne Street Salon opened at 9am with students from Kindergarten to Year 3 participating in our Nitbuster program. Students danced into the hall, bopping away to our salon tunes, and with smiles from ear to ear.
They got to take a seat in one of the 7 salon chairs and were treated to a conditioning head massage and comb before having their hair done in their style of choice. We had mohawks and plaits, ponytails and groovy Sonic spikes.
Each child takes home a confidential note that shares with parents if we found lice or not and how to treat them. This was such a positive experience for all participants and our students excitedly showed off their styled hair to all their friends. Participating in this program each term helps take the stigma out of head lice and teaches our students how to prevent the risk of spreading head lice. We looking forward to seeing this program expand all the way to Year 6 in Week 4 Term 3.

Grip Leadership
Last Wednesday 17 May, our leadership team journeyed to Moree to participate in the GRIP Leadership conference with other schools from across the North-West. They enjoyed an action-packed day full of activities that were built around the fundamentals of quality leadership.
Our leaders learned the importance of putting others first and the four H's of leading: Hear, Helpful, Happiness and Humility. All students thoroughly enjoyed the day, displaying our Core Values and representing NPS with pride.
They look forward to bringing their new-found knowledge back to NPS and putting it into action.
Federation Farm Meeting
Narrabri Public School hosted the latest meeting of the Federation Farm Committee last Wednesday. It is a wonderful opportunity to hear about how our Narrabri Federation Farm is progressing and what important things are happening that keep the farm producing profitable crops. The project generously donates to local schools every year and this year we have committed these funds to expand our Gardening Gurus Sustainable School's program.
This will assist us to realise the dream of kitchen facilities that will support our students to develop essential life skills. We are looking for a new NPS representative to join the Federation Farm Committee. The representative would need to attend 4 meetings a year to discuss matters related to the farm and contribute to decision making processes. They would be someone with an understanding of agriculture and have a passion for contributing to our school community by sharing their knoweldge and skills in this worthwhile manner. If you think you would be a good fit for this important role, please contact Mrs Allen on 67922246 to discuss.
Week 4 Infants Assembly
The hall was filled with shaking hips and infective dance moves, with kindergarten hosting their first infants assembly! After our award presentation, students presented their eisteddfod dance 'I like to move it!' for our audience.
We hope you enjoy our performance.
Mrs Angela Young & Mrs Tarnya King | Classroom Teachers
The scheduled Week 5 Primary assembly has been postponed to
week 7.

APCI WORD
This term Narrabri Public School has welcomed Rachael Passfield to our school. Mrs Passfield is the Lead Specialist for Literacy (Primary) from the Tamworth Education Office, and she has come to our school to work with our Assistant Principals of Curriculum & Instruction, Mrs Lindsay, and Ms Marple.
These specialist teachers will be working alongside classroom teachers to improve our students’ reading by focusing on the explicit teaching of evidence-based effective comprehension teaching strategies.
This week, our specialist teachers visited all classrooms to demonstrate a lesson to help our students answer literal comprehension questions. Students were explicitly taught how to skim and scan texts to find directly stated information. Our students did an excellent job locating directly stated information and answering literal comprehension questions. Mrs Passfield and our APCIs were highly impressed, and so were the class teachers!

Soccer Skills Shine!
The Narrabri Public School soccer team competed in their first match of the PSSA knockout competition against Narrabri West Public School yesterday.
Several weeks of after school training paid off for our team, as shown by their control of the ball and attempts to make accurate passes to their players. Our defensive back line shined, maintaining pressure but unfortunately it was no match for the West School who scored 2 goals. It was a close game, ending with a score of 2-0.
The West School chose Nate as player of the match for demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship, skill and effort.
